The Air King is one of the few Rolex models with a pet name. It was once discontinued, but was recently revived with a larger size and a major change in the dial design. The revived model has been met with mixed reviews as it is in some ways too bold, but the previous model was a standard with a design and size that anyone could love. Anyone who likes simple models such as the Explorer 1 will almost always own one of these Air Kings.

Broadly speaking, there are models with plastic crystals and four-digit references (ref. 5500, etc.) and models with sapphire crystal and 3000-series movements and five-digit references (14000, 14000M, etc.).

The black dial is the original tritium luminous model with a reference of 14000. The paint was changed to Luminova around the year 2000, so tritium dials have become rare. Moreover, the black dials are extremely rare, and they are popular because they look cool. In recent years, many of these models have been replaced with black dials, so please be careful.

It was overhauled by ROLEX Japan in 2016, and is in excellent condition without any replacement of hands or dial. It has a moderate antique feel, but can still be used normally, so I highly recommend it.
