ロレックス デイトジャスト、Ref.1601/8、1964年。金無垢36mm。
この1601世代の肝がパイパンダイヤル。外周が段になっていて、平面の文字盤じゃ出ない陰影が出る。立体感。ここが“この年代の顔”ですよね。フルーテッドベゼルと合わさると、現行とは違うクラシックらしさが際立ってかっこいい。
厚みのあるプラ風防もまた良い。ガラスみたいな硬さじゃなくて、使うごとに腕に馴染む艶と柔らかさ。実物見たら、ここで心を持っていかれる人多いと思います。  
中身はCal.1560。クイックチェンジなし。日付がズレたらひたすら回す。でも、その手間が愛おしいんですよね。

The key to this 1601 generation is the pie-pan dial. That stepped outer edge creates shadows you simply don’t get on a flat dial. Depth. This is the “face” of the era, right? Paired with the fluted bezel, the classic character pops in a way modern pieces just don’t. 
The thick acrylic crystal is another part of it. Not that hard, glassy feel — more of a gloss and softness that settles into the wrist as you wear it. See it in person and I think a lot of people get hooked right here.
Inside is Cal.1560. No quickset. If the date is off, you just keep turning it. But honestly, that little hassle is kind of lovable.
