This is a transitional dial when moving from a circle mirror to a circle-less mirror. The 3 / 6 / 9 font and crown mark are the same specifications as the circle mirror. However, as mentioned above, there is no circle. Since the following year, 1966, the dial was changed to a round lettering (3/6/9), this dial is thought to have been manufactured within about a year. It is a specification that seems quite likely but is actually quite rare. The dial's luminous material is original and untouched with no additions or modifications. It has a good shine and doesn't look worn out. The bracelet is a Swiss Expassion bracelet with a '65 stamp. It has no stretching. Although circles on the dial give it a more vintage feel, they also make the dial appear slightly smaller, so recently there has been a trend for many customers to prefer mirrors without circles. This is a beautiful example of a Rolex Explorer I reference 1016. The dial is 100 percent original gilt dial and has great patina with matching hands. Comes on a Rolex expansion rivet bracelet stamped 65.
