This is an M3, which is the basis of the Leica M-type, and was produced in the first lot in 1954, the debut year. Although it is called the first lot, there are various specifications. The very early ones have a step on the front and back corners of the top plate. Then there is a step on the front corner. In addition to the engraving on the top plate, these early models also have the same engraving (serial number) on the chassis as the top plate. Of course, this particular one is matching.
The early models have many details that differ from the regular models. Mounts, film pressure plates, shutter brake systems, viewfinders, etc. All of these are included to call it an original. There are many that have mixed parts, parts that are not of the same era, and even some with different top plates and chassis, so be careful with these items. If you are considering purchasing one, we will provide you with detailed images and explanations, so please feel free to purchase.
